Waterfront Tower was designed by I.M Pei in the 1960s and updated in 2009 by Torti Gallas & Partners. As an award winning Chinese-American architect, Pei is celebrated around the world for his contributions to modern architecture. At the age of 18 Pei moved to the United States to study architecture. He received degrees from M.I.T. and Harvard and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1954.

During his long and legendary career, Pei designed numerous iconic buildings throughout the United States and the world. It was Pei who designed the famed pyramid entrance to the Louvre Museum in Paris as well as the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Now in his 90s, Pei is a still a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a Corporate Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has received the Medal of Liberty from President Ronald Reagan, and was elected an Honorary Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
